Recipe: 5-Minute Spicy Tomato Chutney
2024-07-20•Chef Adhikari
We can’t give you the exact recipe for the sauce we serve at the truck (it’s a family secret locked in a vault), but this quick version is perfect for home use.
It goes great with:
- Dumplings (obviously)
- Grilled Cheese
- Scrambled Eggs
- Rice bowls
Ingredients
- Tomatoes: 3 large, ripe ones
- Garlic: 4 cloves
- Dry Red Chilies: 5-6 (depending on bravery)
- Sesame Seeds: 2 tbsp, toasted
- Cilantro: 1 bunch
- Lemon Juice: 1 tbsp
- Salt: to taste
Instructions
- Roast the Tomatoes: Place tomatoes directly over a gas flame or under a broiler until the skin is charred. This adds that smoky flavor.
- Toast Sesame: In a dry pan, toast sesame seeds until golden brown.
- Blend: Peel the charred skin off the tomatoes. Throw them in a blender with garlic, chilies, toasted sesame, cilantro, and salt.
- Season: Pulse until smooth. Stir in the lemon juice at the end.
Store in the fridge for up to a week!
