Recipe: 5-Minute Spicy Tomato Chutney

We can’t give you the exact recipe for the sauce we serve at the truck (it’s a family secret locked in a vault), but this quick version is perfect for home use.

It goes great with:

  • Dumplings (obviously)
  • Grilled Cheese
  • Scrambled Eggs
  • Rice bowls

Chutney Ingredients

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes: 3 large, ripe ones
  • Garlic: 4 cloves
  • Dry Red Chilies: 5-6 (depending on bravery)
  • Sesame Seeds: 2 tbsp, toasted
  • Cilantro: 1 bunch
  • Lemon Juice: 1 tbsp
  • Salt: to taste

Instructions

  1. Roast the Tomatoes: Place tomatoes directly over a gas flame or under a broiler until the skin is charred. This adds that smoky flavor.
  2. Toast Sesame: In a dry pan, toast sesame seeds until golden brown.
  3. Blend: Peel the charred skin off the tomatoes. Throw them in a blender with garlic, chilies, toasted sesame, cilantro, and salt.
  4. Season: Pulse until smooth. Stir in the lemon juice at the end.

Store in the fridge for up to a week!
